The European Union and the Schengen countries are different unions!
The agreement acquired this name in honor of the small village where everything took place. This is a province bordering Germany near the Moselle River.
The first list of Schengen countries included only 5 states.
The creators of the association were France and Germany, and 3 more countries that form the Benelux: Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg.
The purpose of the agreement is to remove passport and immigration controls at their common borders. Within the Schengen area, citizens of participating countries can move freely as if in one country, having equal international rights of movement.
The Schengen area covers 29 European countries with no border controls between them: Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal , Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania.

The passport must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of submission of documents.
